Client: National Geographic x Prada
We recently teamed up with National Geographic and Prada to create a series of ‘trash to treasure’ stories across five different continents, taking in New Zealand, Cameroon, China, U.S.A and Slovenia. Prada’s new line of bags are built from Econyl, a premium nylon thread made from waste materials – from the lost & abandoned fishing nets that kill millions of marine animals each year, to the millions of tonnes of synthetic carpet that would otherwise linger in landfill for centuries.
Alongside National Geographic Explorers from a range of disciplines and influencers passionate about sustainability, we’ve been hanging with tech divers in Wellington who give up their weekends to recover marine trash, a lakeside community in Cameroon turning abandoned gill nets into new opportunities as well as checking out factories in China, Slovenia and the US that are pioneering the circular economies that we’ll need to adopt if we’re to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
The result is a series of mini-documentaries, TV spots and social cutdown as well as photo essays, features articles and listicles that are rolling out across National Geographic and Prada channels from July through October. The hope is that they’ll bring to light the pressing issue of sustainability in the fashion industry as well as the innovative ways that communities and companies are starting to build circular supply chains that are good for people and good for the planet.
