Wolf Hunter

Yakutia is probably the largest, and coldest, non-nation state in the world. Life here revolves around diamonds, staying warm and reindeer. But in 2013 exploding wolf populations led president Yegor Borisov, to announce a ‘state of emergency’, calling for international support and setting into motion a bounty system which has since grown into the largest organised wolf hunt in history.

Wolf Hunter is an intimate exploration of the life of Ion Maxsimovic, the region’s most celebrated Wolf Hunter. Ion lives deep in the Taiga forest, killing wolves for bounty money. Last year Ion killed 23 wolves, more than any other hunter, winning 300,000 roubles and a snowmobile.
